Crossover Catastrophe- The Secret of Queen Annalese
Hello,
and welcome back to Fanfic Masochism.
Ah,
the crossover. I’m rather fond of crossovers, because that’s where I got my
start when writing my own fanfiction. Of all the genres of fanfiction out
there, the crossover is probably the hardest to pull off. Not only do you have
to know the ins and outs of one
universe, but you also have to know the ins and outs of multiple universes. What kind of powers would an Imperial psyker
have in Middle Earth or Equestria (believe me, that last one has happened)?
Would Godzilla trash the heroes and villains of Neon Genesis Evangelion? Star
Trek vs. Star Wars (My question
is why not have both)?
My
point is, a crossover needs a lot more attention than a normal story; all
aspects of the various canons need to be properly balanced, and all the
characters need to be properly represented and still feel like their canon selves.
So,
what do you get when you cross Teen
Titans, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Percy
Jackson, and How To Train Your Dragon
together? A cluttered mess of a fic also known as The Secret of Queen Annalese by Rosealyn ‘Flinx’ Roth.
Spoilers
ahoy!
The
fic opens with a note that this is from Beast Boy’s perspective. Helpful, but
it could have been done much better… like, you know, not telling us and showing that it’s Beast Boy speaking. Hopefully
this doesn’t end up like Legend of Skye
Dumbass or Healing (shudders).
Anyway, Beast Boy narrates that Robin has called a meeting of all the Titans
groups; North, South, East, West, and so on.
…
Last
time I checked, the Titans only had East and West groups. Someone correct me if
I’m wrong.
So,
we’ve got everyone here: Robin, Cyborg, Beast Boy, Raven, Starfire, Kid Flash,
Speedy, Jinx, Terra, Cheshire-
Jinx,
I can understand; she did actually have a Heel-Face Turn on the show. But Terra
and Cheshire? Last time I checked,
Terra ended the series depowered and just wanting a normal life without
superheroics making things complicated, and Cheshire was still the crazy
Vietnamese assassin we all know and love. If this were the comics universe I’d
be scratching my head more, since the first incrarnation of Terra (who I believe was the inspiration for the animated Terra) was a psycho
even Deathstroke was scared of and
Cheshire nuked a country as part of her job (or because she’s as much a loon as
the other supervillains). Granted, Cheshire being redeemed through her love for
Roy Harper has worked before (*cough*Young
Justice*cough*), you can’t just spring it on us that quickly.
Although…
considering she’s with Speedy, does that mean Lian Harper is canon?
Whatever,
all the Titans are called together, and after we get a brief rundown of the
couples in the group (with special note that Beast Boy has gotten over Terra
since her memories came back) Robin explains the mission: he got a call from a
queen (guessing the title Queen Annalese), saying that she’s being pursued by
fantastical monsters and needs the Titans’ help. Beast Boy makes a crack about
unicorns and Jinx blows up his chair for his troubles, causing all the Titans
to laugh at his misfortune. Even Raven chuckles a little.
…
Well,
it is Beast Boy. Raven does tend to
laugh when things go wrong for him.
So,
what is the queen being hunted by?
“By vampires.”
Vampires.
Really? That’s the problem that requires over four super teams to deal with?
While proper, non-Twilight vampires
are awesome, they are fairly low on the totem pole when it comes to superhuman
threats. Almost every major hero (and quite a few minor ones) have beaten
vampires at one point or another (Supergirl and Batgirl/Stephanie Brown took
out an entire mob of Dracula clones once), so they aren’t usually considered a
threat when compared to the diabolical masterminds and galactic conquerors
superheroes usually go up against. I mean, unless the entire Von Carstein
family, their retainers, and all of their undead armies are after this queen, I
don’t see a reason why the Titans need to call in reinforcements.
Robin
goes on to say that the Queen will be here in the morning, and after all the
heroes agree to defend her to the best of their abilities Robin says that, just
to be sure, the queen suggested he call in some help from a few other groups,
mainly Team Avatar and the heroes of Camp Halfblood.
Um…
So the Justice League doesn’t exist
in this universe? Are they busy fighting Darkseid or someone else, and thus
can’t spare at least a few members to help?
Ignoring
that fact for a moment, how would the queen know about these alternate
dimension heroes and how to contact them? Maybe it has something to do with her
secret, but a little explanation would be nice.
So,
the other teams show up, and…
…
Their introductions amount to “Hello, my name is X, and I can do this.” And
they sound all official too. It works for some characters… for others:
“I am
a bender. I can earthbend, though I am blind. I can feel the vibrations in the
earth allowing me to pinpoint where everyone and everything is”- Toph Bei
Fong.
…
Not so much. Compare that to Toph’s original introduction, where she talks
smack with the Boulder before clobbering him in Earth Rumber VI. That scene
helped set up Toph’s powers and her
personality, but this scene only goes half way. I want to see Toph be snarky,
please; heck, even Ember Island Player Toph did this intro better.
Oh,
and also the entire Greek Pantheon
gets called in from the Percy Jackson
universe, not to mention the demigod heroes themselves. Do you really need GODS to take out a couple of vampires?
Screw the Von Carsteins, Nagash must be invading the realm if you call in an
entire Pantheon just to protect one queen.
Oh,
and Beast Boy apparently is attracted to one of Aphrodite’s daughters,
especially when she starts adjusting her appearance to look like Raven.
…
Well,
add another contender to the “quickest ships” contest. Beast Boy and Raven are
right behind Jupiter and Kaldur, I believe.
Oh,
and the author’s note says there more characters are forthcoming.
You’ve
already got over THIRTY characters,
and you just said you were going to have trouble keeping track of them. YOU DO
NOT NEED MORE CHARACTERS! YOU DIDN’T EVEN NEED MOST OF THESE CHARACTERS!
Seriously, the core team would have been more
than adequate in dealing with a vampire problem: you’ve got a half-demon
sorceress, a super strong alien who can fire energy blasts from her eyes and
hands, a kid who can shapeshift into any animal, a cyborg loaded out with
advanced weaponry, and Batman’s protégé. They should send your vampires running
for Transylvania without breaking a sweat.
Even
if you wanted to do a crossover, you still don’t need many characters: Rosealyn
‘Flinx’ Roth brought in not only the main members of Team Avatar, but also
Ozai’s Angels (Azula, Mai, and Ty Lee). And then you have Percy and his friends
being joined by the Greek Gods, and all the other members of the Titans, most
of which I don’t really know much about. All you really need for this is the
core of Team Avatar (Aang, Katara, Sokka, Toph, Zuko, and Suki) and the main
heroes of the Percy Jackson series
teaming up with the original five Titans, and this story would have been fine.
If you have too many characters in the story, it becomes cluttered and you have
a hard time keeping all of them straight and, more importantly, developing them
sufficiently. Some writers are good at this (Tolkien, George R.R. Martin), but
their stories are usually longer than 20,000 words.
No,
that’s not just a number I pulled out of a hat. This story is 20,136 words
long, split up over sixteen chapters.
There
are other problems about bringing in these particular characters that I won’t
get into right away, because now we get a scene from Raven’s POV.
At
least the author was nice enough to tell us when the POV shifted.
Anyway,
the next day Raven wakes up and gives a mental rundown of the events the next
day. She thinks all the new people are nice (she bonds with Mai, no surprise
there), and even Azula is personable, which is explained in an author’s note
immediately following the sentence-
Never,
and I mean never, put author’s notes
in the story proper. That completely kills the momentum of the story, and it
damages your ability of actually showing
us the changes in this universe.
And
while Azula being nice is not a bad plotline, it works so much better if you SHOW US THIS! Don’t just say “Oh, she’s
good in this universe” and then do nothing to elaborate on it. Do you expect me
to forget this:
Or
this:
Or
this:
Just
because you said “Oh, that didn’t happen”? It didn’t work in Avatars II, I don’t think it’ll work
here.
So,
Raven goes downstairs and sees that everyone is up and about. She immediately
goes back to her room, although I think the author meant for her to walk into
the room instead of “walked back into my room”.
“You can use the bathroom and shower if you
need to.” I informed them. “I’m going down to the living room/ kitchen” (A/N: I don’t know what to call it)
Translation:
I’m such a shitty writer I can’t even choose what to call a kitchen.
So
Raven goes to the living room/ kitchen (is it really so hard to choose between
the two?) to make some tea… a woman out of my own heart. However, Beast Boy
already made her tea, and Raven… is surprisingly happy. She even gets an
exclamation point after one of her sentences. Now, I’m not saying that Raven
can’t be happy, it’s just that usually she’s so dry and monotone that happiness
isn’t one of those emotions she shows off very often, and even then not as
vocally as shown here.
Anyway,
Raven takes her tea out and runs into Aphrodite, who explains the other gods
departed with their children for a little bit.
…
So
much for swearing to defend this queen.
Raven
and Aphrodite talk for a little, with Aphrodite saying she likes the Tower
because of all the love going around. Raven takes some time to mull over her
relationship with Beast Boy, which Aphrodite catches on to and teases Raven about.
And
this romance plot feels like I’m getting hit by a brick… pretty sure I used
that joke before. And do we need the teasing bit? That was old back in Legend of Skye Dumbass.
But
we’re interrupted by the arrival of the queen! Robin informs the others that
the queen is very old fashioned… as in “still travels by horse and carriage”
old fashioned.
Um…
Okay? How the hell did she get in touch with Robin and the Titans, smoke
signals? Courier pigeon?
“Wow, you weren’t kidding when you said old
fashion, were you, Robin.” Azula said.
…
YOU’RE
ONE TO TALK TO, PSYCHO PRINCESS WHO TRAVELS BY PALANQUIN HALF THE TIME!
The
carriage stops and the queen’s servants get out. They’re all dressed in 18th
century style clothing, but there’s little description of just WHAT that looks
like. So, I imagine they look like this:
![]() |
| Our Queen's Servant, Ladies and Gentlemen! |
So
the queen proper steps out of her carriage. Instead of getting a description of
what she looks like, we’re told in another INTERRUPTING AUTHOR’S NOTE to go to
the author’s profile and look at a drawing there… Yeah, because that’s not
going to distract me. Raven notes that the queen is very beautiful, in dress
and body.
Why
would Raven be commenting on clothes? Isn’t that more Starfire or Ty Lee’s
thing?
There’s
also something off about her eyes.
Unusual
eye color is a major warning sign for Sues.
So,
this is Queen Annalese, our human MacGuffin for the remainder of this fic. And
it turns out the two girls are Astrid and Ruffnut from How to Train Your Dragon, and they’re Annalese’s servants/ besties.
…
WERE
THEY REALLY NEEDED FOR THIS?! WE ALREADY HAVE ENOUGH CHARACTERS, WE DON’T NEED
MORE! AND WHY WOULD A QUEEN HAVE A PAIR OF DARK AGE ERA VIKINGS ACTING AS HER
SERVANTS! WHY ARE THEY EVEN ACTING AS SERVANTS? AND WHERE ARE THEIR DRAGONS!?
AND WHERE’S TUFFNUT?! RUFFNUT NEVER GOES ANYWHERE WITHOUT TUFFNUT!
Just
when I thought this fic couldn’t get any worse.
We
then cut to Katara’s POV… I thought this was about Beast Boy and Raven? I like
you, Katara, but I really don’t want to see what you have to say.
DON’T
CRY! I STILL THINK YOU’RE AWESOME!
Anyway,
Katara’s narration opens with her commenting how beautiful the queen is…
Honestly, I think Katara is a billion times hotter than Annalese, but that’s
just me. The queen said that they had a pleasant journey, although they were
sort of attacked on the way in but her fiancé Adrian managed to lose the bad
guys soon enough.
If
he’s so awesome, why do you even need
all the other heroes?
Logic:
Because then she’d have to publish the story legitimately?
SHUT
UP!
So,
it also turns out that the queen and her fiancé didn’t want to wait for the
honeymoon and already have a baby, the ridiculously beautiful Julietta.
First
off, I don’t usually approve of unmarried couples having babies, especially
since these two are teens (confirmed when Katara said that Annalese is the same
age as her and the heroes). Second off, obviously the two had enough time to
screw each other, so the vampire thing must not be very important. Thirdly, WHY
IS EVERYONE FAWNING OVER A BABY WHEN THEY SHOULD BE DEALING WITH THE VAMPIRE
THREAT! I’m just going to rename Julietta Black Hole, and then everything will
be better.
Annalese
asks if Black Hole will be any trouble. Jinx says no, and she can stay in her,
Terra and Cheshire’s room (because a reality warper who causes bad luck, a
turncoat, and a psychotic assassin are the perfect
nannies!)
Katara
offers to help move stuff in… and she gets into a conversation with Ruffnut and
Astrid about what it’s like serving under the “beautiful and caring Queen
Annalese” (grabs mouthwash).
“It’s fun. She’s extremely nice, unlike many
other royals and queens that are stuck up and treat you like s**t. She doesn’t
treat us like slaves at all.”
Cutting
the line short, because it’s just the two of them boasting about how awesome
and wonderful Queen Annalese is.
Like
you wouldn’t believe.
Also,
Astrid and Ruffnut are BADASS VIKING WARRIORS! THEY WOULDN’T TAKE SHIT FROM
ANYONE!
Speaking
of, why is shit censored when later ass is not? Just go all the way and write
it as it should be, or if you’re so uneasy about showing it just cut it
completely.
They
also explain that the vampires want to kill the royal family, but not why.
That’s the queen’s business, her secret…
DON’T
TELL ME YOU’RE GOING TO BE JOINING KALANI AND JUPITER IN THE “I’M NOT GOING TO
TELL ANYONE ABOUT MY PROBLEMS” CLUB!
Afterwards,
Katara hangs around and comments that Queen Annalese is more beautiful than
her- WOULD YOU JUST STOP IT!!! KATARA IS MUCH MORE BEAUTIFUL THAN THIS PASTY
WHITE BIMBO!!!
Katara
turns to leave, but Annalese asks her to help Astrid and Ruffnut undress her.
…
…
…
…
They
do so, and Katara’s all amazed at the intricacy of it all… okay, fair enough,
she was raised in a small backwater tribe. She still notes that Annalese is
pretty and all…
Kinda
creepy there, Katara.
GAH!
Anyway,
next scene is from Thalia’s POV… the one from Percy Jackson, not Bruce Wayne’s babymomma (who will always be
inferior to Selina Kyle. See, I can ship too).
And
do we really need to shift POVs so much? Just stick with one viewpoint character,
and the story will be much smoother.
Anyway,
Starfire wakes her up for breakfast, although she seems a bit ditzier than
usual. There’s ship-teasing between Thalia and Nico, and then more “Annalese
and Black Hole are the greatest people in the world” fawning.
Shoot
me.
After
Annalese retrieves Black Hole, she announces that since she and Adrian have
been engaged for two years (one of which was spent running from vampires and
making babies), now’s the perfect time to have their wedding. Tomorrow, if it
can be managed.
…
…
WHY
WOULD YOU THINK NOW IS A GOOD TIME TO
HAVE A WEDDING?! YOU ARE BEING CHASED BY VAMPIRES WHO WANT TO KILL YOU AND YOUR
FAMILY, YOU SHOULD DEAL WITH THEM FIRST
BEFORE GETTING HITCHED! AND YOU CAN’T JUST SCRAPE A WEDDING TOGETHER IN ONE
DAY… okay, you probably could, but it wouldn’t be a very fancy one.
We
then cut to Terra’s POV- OH MY GOD WOULD YOU JUST STOP IT! STOP CHANGING
CHARACTERS EVERY CHAPTER! THIS ISN’T GAME
OF THRONES! I would have found it more bearable if they were actually well developed characters, but NO ONE
has any discernible personality or anything resembling their canon selves;
Raven’s not deadpan, Beast Boy isn’t fun loving, Azula is not diabolical,
Katara’s not headstrong, so on and so forth. THESE ARE NOT THE CHARACTERS THAT
I KNOW AND LOVE, THESE ARE JUST CARDBOARD CUTOUTS OF THOSE CHARACTERS.
…
I’m
less than hallway through this shit.
So,
wedding planning happens. It’s all shopping and buying food and decorations,
wedge between “Annalese is so beautiful and awesome” moments. Azula even
comments on how cool it is to be part of a queen’s wedding.
…
Let
me repeat that, AZULA is commenting
on how cool it is to be at a queen’s wedding.
You
know, Azula. PRINCESS Azula. Sociopathic nutcase Azula. The girl who flat out murdered one of the most powerful
characters in the Avatar franchise
(he got better). The girl who overthrew an entire nation in three days, at the
age of fourteen. The girl whose idea of flirting is to comment how her target’s
outfit could result in the deaths of hundreds of sailors. The girl who said
that trust and understanding is for weaklings, and only through fear can she
get anything resembling respect.
Long
story short, AZULA WOULD NOT GIVE A DAMN ABOUT SOME QUEEN’S WEDDING! YOU HAVE
DERAILED AZULA’S CHARACTER SO MUCH THAT I’M NOT EVEN SURE SHE’S THE REAL
AZULA!!
So,
they get everything ready, and everyone goes to bed to rest for tomorrow. We
then get an entire chapter dedicated to the author saying she’s not going to
continue the story unless more people review it.
…
…
…
No. Lesson for new writers out there, NEVER hold your story hostage for
more reviews. It makes you look like a whiney attention whore, and it really
defeats the purpose of writing. You should be writing because it’s fun, because
you have a wonderful story that needs to be told, not because you want everyone
to bow down to you and say how awesome you are. If you think that not enough
people are reviewing your work, update more and get your name out. Even better,
ask those that like the story to tell their friends or anyone else who might
like it and let the story spread by word of mouth, but don’t demand that your
readers give you love.
Miss
Roth, you have made me dislike you even more than Dakari-King Mykan, because at
least he didn’t demand that we love him… he told us all that we were idiots
that wouldn’t know a good story when we saw one, but he didn’t demand that we
love him.
The
next chapter is another author’s note saying that she’s continuing on, but
doesn’t know how to write weddings.
I
don’t either, which is why I tend to avoid them.
Next
chapter is from Jinx’ POV-
Moving
on…
They
get ready for the wedding, and the story continues to be peppered with Author’s
Notes and “Oh, Annalese is so awesome” moments… now that I look at it, Annalese
kind of acts like a bitch throughout this entire story. She’s always making
demands and telling the heroes what to do like they’re all their servants,
nevermind that half of them could probably kill her without breaking a sweat. I
know she’s a guest and all, but the characters are not her slaves.
Or
at the very least, shouldn’t be.
So
they all get ready, and the scene cuts to Raven’s POV HALFWAY THROUGH THE
CHAPTER! AND SHE SPENDS HER SCENE GAWKING OVER HOW BEAUTIFUL SHE LOOKS IN HER
BRIDESMAID DRESS!
I’m
reaching the point where I want
Nagash to come out of Warhammer Fantasy and devour this Sue’s soul. THAT, at
least, would be IN CHARACTER!
Half
of this chapter is them getting their hair and clothes ready. Pass.
The
other half is the actual wedding. Do we see that? Nope, because it’s not like I
wanted to see any real SUBSTANCE in
this story. No, I wanted to see a
Mary Sue get married while everyone else is a brain-dead idiot with no
personality beyond “Ooh, Annalese is so pretty and wonderful!”
Actually,
forget calling Julietta Black Hole. Annalese
is now Black Hole.
Black
Hole and her boy toy get married. Now everyone has to go celebrate instead of
worrying about the FREAKING VAMPIRES! OR DID YOU FORGET THAT THERE ARE VAMPIRES
AFTER BLACK HOLE AND HER PRECIOUS BABY! THAT KIND OF SEEMS LIKE AN IMPORTANT
PLOT POINT!
The
next chapter is the reception. We open with Azula’s POV, and of course she’s
OOC to the point that I’m just going to refer to her as Beth (apologies to any
readers out there actually named Beth). Beth is having a great time before we
cut to Kid Flash’ POV, and he confesses his love for Jinx, followed by some guy
name Kole and Raven and-
STOP!
STOP! JUST STOP! STOP THIS RIGHT NOW! YOU CAN’T JUST CHANGE POVS LIKE THAT! YOU
CAN’T JUST HAVE A BUNCH OF “LOVE CONFESSIONS” FOR CHARACTERS THAT HAVE BARELY INTERACTED WITH ONE ANOTHER! YOU CAN’T JUST
SAY “OH, THESE CHARACTERS ARE SO IN LOVE WITH ONE ANOTHER” AND NOT ACTUALLY SHOW
US ANY EVIDENCE THAT THIS IS FACT!
…
Thank
God it’s almost over.
The
next chapter is called “Trouble and Secrets Revealed”. So we’re finally getting back to the original
plot? YES!
For
whatever reason, Dr. Light, HIVE and Mumbo decide to attack the city, calling
the Titans away. No problem, you’ve still got 20+ heroes and GODS to defend
Black Hole. Of course, we don’t see any of the fight, and what we do see is
that the vampires arrive, take out several heroes, and kidnap baby Julietta.
The
heroes rush in to help, but Black Hole tells them to back off or else they’ll
all get killed.
Lady,
these people have fought against GODS and won, and you’re telling them to back
off from fighting a couple of vampires?
Duing
this time we are introduced to Daemon (I guess it’s pronounced like Matt Damon
instead of demon, since daemon is the British spelling of demon), and he
proceeds to taunt Black Hole about her past a little. In the meantime, Black
Hole demands that Daemon let her friends go.
However,
he’s an idiot and does so, but refuses to let Baby Black Hole go. He taunts
Black Hole again and it turns out…
Daemon’s
her brother, and she’s the Vampire Queen.
…
…
…
Ha.
Ha
ha ha. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!
…
Seriously,
though. That’s a pretty lame twist. I mean, it worked for Tarrlok and Amon
because he didn’t know Amon was Noatak until he got Bloodbent (oops, spoilers),
but here it just falls flat. Also, if you had TOLD US THIS earlier instead of
waiting until NOW, then a whole lot of pain and misunderstanding could have
been avoided… okay, the pain is mostly referring to me.
Her
backstory is that when she was younger back in 1835, she was raped by a gang of
thugs…
…
Do
I really need to repeat my rant concerning rape that I made back in my review
of legolas by laura? Because I’ll
give an abridged version; rape is a terrible experience, and I hate that
writers like Rosealyn ‘Flinx’ Roth use it as cheap emotional drama that has no
longlasting effect on the character. Furthermore, if Black Hole really is
almost two hundred years old, she is not going to be acting like some stereotypical
teenager; the body might not age, but the brain does (unless you’ve been in
suspended animation for an extended period of time). She would most likely be
a) cold and detatched or b) haughty and superior to everyone.
...
Oh
wait, I forgot to mention that Rosealyn ‘Flinx’ Roth is a Twilight fangirl to the Nth degree.
Yeah,
call in the Exterminatus.
Black
Hole’s story is enough to drive the Not Teen Titans and Not Team Avatar and Not
halfbloods to tears, and she announces that she has a plan to get her daughter
back.
…
That’s
your plan? I could have come up with that in my sleep. Now, a better plan would
be one of the following:
You
have gods on your side. Have them just march in and pulp Daemon’s pasty white
ass.
A
few heavy hitters make a distraction, then Toph and Aang do a surgical strike
to steal Julietta from Daemon, and then drop their base on top of them.
Kid
Flash runs in there and steals the kid. He doesn’t call himself the Fastest Man
Alive for kicks.
A
few heavy hitters make a distraction, while quicker characters like Robin and
Ty Lee sneak in and steal the kid, and then Toph and Aang drop the base on
their heads.
Astrid
and Ruffnut go back to Berk and get their dragons for a little vampire
barbeque.
Let
Azula talk to them for a few minutes. She’ll get your baby back and a loyal army of vampires to go with
it.
Just
having half your team sit on the sidelines severely hampers their effectiveness,
and makes me wonder why you even included those characters in the first place.
So
they go to find the bad guys, although they have to travel by low technological
levels to avoid detection. Their destination? Transylvania… which I’ll note is
in Europe, halfway around the world.
It would take months for them to travel that far, even with superpowers (unless
you’re Kid Flash, in which case you can probably get there in a few minutes at
least).
Do
we get to see the trip?
(A/N:
I’m going to skip the part where they travel, we all know it took forever to
get there. Very boring, nothing happened, people complained, couples and
friends bonded, etc.)
“Nothing
happened”? YOU JUST SAID THERE WAS CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT AND BONDING! YOU CAN’T
JUST HIDE THAT OFFSCREEN!! AND WHO COMPLAINED?! IT SEEMED PRETTY DAMN UNANIMOUS
THAT THEY WERE ONBOARD WITH THE IDEA OF SAVING YOUR LITTLE BRAT!
They
arrive at Daemon’s evil lair, your stereotypical creepy castle. They take out
the guards easy enough, which makes me wonder why they still need so many
characters.
…
Wait, I’ve been wondering that since Chapter 1.
They
infiltrate the base and confront daemon, who plans to make Jinx his bride. Of
course, things don’t work out for him and Black Hole kills him… which makes me
question WHY SHE NEEDED PROTECTION IF SHE’S PERFECLTY CAPABLE OF KILLING THE
BAD GUYS BY HERSELF.
They
find Julietta and head back to Jump City. Everything is great, so the team
decides to celebrate their victory.
I’m
celebrating that I don’t have to read this again.
This
story sucks. The plot is awful, the canon characters are OOC to the highest
degree, and Annalese is such a Mary Sue that she creates her own gravity well
of bad. Nothing is developed, from the relationships to Daemon’s role in the
plot. He was so generic that I didn’t even bother reading into the full of his
plan. It was most likely “Make Jinx my wife and take over the world”.
As
far as a crossover, it sucks even more. None of the aspects of Avatar, Teen Titans, Percy Jackson, or How to Train Your Dragon are shown to
their fullest, because everything is solved by Annalese before the other
characters can get their chance to shine. It’s like I go to a movie theater
expecting a superhero movie and accidentally walk into Breaking Dawn Part 2.
For
those of you who want to write crossovers, try to make sure both universes have
a chance to shine, so that the entire experience feels like I’m actually
watching/reading something from those universes… This also includes fusion
fics, which I’ll probably get to eventually.

1 Comments:
i know how you feel i've read truly terrible stories (both regular and crossovers) and stories that started good but ended up as a 'WTF is this shit'.
